Every time I have seen this movie, I have found myself feeling inspired. Abbie Hoffman, as depicted in the movie, was a a true revolutionary and yet he was fully human. The movie shows the man’s flaws and problems, along side his rebellious fight against injustice.

I can’t honestly say that I know what Abbie Hoffman was truly the amazing patriot the film painted him as, but the Abbie from the film was an inspiring man. Despite being run underground by the CIA and FBI, Abbie couldn’t suppress the drive he had for justice. He fought for causes and ultimately exposed himself, then turned himself in before being caught. His early days through his final days were all filled with love for his fellow man and his country. Many in the past and today would probably see him as Anti-American, but it was quite the opposite.

Like Abbie, I can’t say that I think flying a flag makes you a patriot. Questioning the government is a good thing, a patriotic thing in fact. Caring about the people in your country is more important that singing the national anthem. Abbie was my kind of patriot, a rabblerouser who cared about people. …more… »
