The Guy in the Dragon Helmet

October 29th, 2008 by thepaintedman
Chazz: Who’d win in a wrestling match, Lemmy or God?
Chris Moore: Lemmy.
[Rex imitates a game show buzzer]
Chris Moore: … God?
Rex: Wrong, dickhead, trick question. Lemmy *IS* God.

The guy in the dragon helmet riding in on the motorcycle is my wife’s uncle (and the guy who hooks me up with backstage passes every time Motorhead comes to Philly).

Charlie at Weyerbacher

October 16th, 2008 by thepaintedman

Weyerbacher update… not having time to run up to Easton this weekend is disappointing. Anything by Weyerbacher is great and brown ales are typically irresistible to me. Go buy me a case… PLEASE!

Charlie Released! In bottles this Saturday October 18 at the brewery from Noon to 3pm!

Stop down and check out the third in our Brewers Select Series of one-off brews. Charlie is a beautiful, hefty brown ale at 7.4% ABV and about 10% smoked malt for a very intriguing, pleasant, flavorful beer. We’re not talking in your face “smoked ham” here, just a nice light touch (more than a nuance) that makes this beer very beguiling. We only have about 25 cases, so it’ll likely be sold out before the end of the day.

Big Penis Hits Small Screen

October 15th, 2008 by thepaintedman

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is out on DVD and so is Jason Segel’s member. As I noted in my review of the movie months ago on Nerd Lives, How I Met Your Mother’s Marshall Erickson is a well endowed fellow, although his endowment is not nearly as impressive on the small screen as it was in theaters.

It can be noted that the gorgeous co-star, and voice of Meg Griffin, Mila Kunis is shown topless in the movie, as well. …more… »

Armagh Creating a Monster?

October 15th, 2008 by thepaintedman

The Indiana Gazette published an article on September, 29, 2008 by Randy Wells about a paroled sex offender moving into Armagh, PA after being released from prison. Despite the obvious discomfort with having a sex offender living nearby, it is unfair for a community to call for his head due to his past. This judgment is being handed down to Richard Vavro; and, to be frank, it frightens me that these people may drive this man to hurt himself or others.

Community members are calling for Halloween to be observed only in daylight hours this year. Some have claimed that the state shouldn’t have allowed this man to live in Armagh; for example, a man named Troy Mack is quoted in the article as having said, “I feel the state let this community down.” Others already consider him guilty of a future attack and have insinuated that the entire community needs to police against the 54 year old parolee. …more… »

White Boy Reggae Done Right

October 2nd, 2008 by thepaintedman

Rocks like: Long Beach Dub All-Stars, Slightly Stoopid, and Sublime.
SiSenorita.com | Band on Myspace | Si Senorita on iSOUND

615000042_l.jpgLet me preface my assessment of Si Senorita’s High Times, Hangovers, and Harmonies by saying that if I was on a deserted island for the rest of my life with one album it would be Sublime’s 40 oz. to Freedom and that Sublime is arguably my favorite band of all-time. Thus, my standards for reggae influenced rock are pretty high, so it’s in no way an insult to say that I believe that this album sounds like Sublime with a less talented singer.

I don’t think the vocals are bad, in fact I would assert quite the contrary. Mike Garrity, the lead vocalist and one of two guitarists, has a great voice… but Brad Nowell (RIP) had the voice of an angel and a ridiculous vocal range. Mike isn’t quite an angel and doesn’t display nearly as much range, but has a great voice for their brand of white boy reggae. He hits all the notes, isn’t often flat, and has a more than decent range. It’d be fair to compare his vocal style to any number of Skunk Records vocalists not named Nowell.

To compliment the more than worthy vocal stylings, the music is nothing short of solid. There is a simplicity about most of the melodies that comes across as seemingly effortless… not effortless in a bad but, rather, in a great way, the way that sounds just right, the way that take no effort by the listener, the way that just makes you want to float away into a sea of Mexican beer and summery cocktails. These effortless melodies are melded with a tight rhythm section. …more… »
